Sweet cherries.

Our sweet cherry tree has been laden with cherries this year, more than previous years, and the cherries have been very nice. They have also lasted for a long time.
We have eaten lots of cherries straight from the tree, and they are sweet and delicious :)
All these were picked by my oldest daughter this morning, and by the time the photo was taken we had already eaten the tops off the bowls.

We have never used to preserve sweet cherries, but today I canned some.
(The seeds were not removed, as I did not feel like starting on that).

I made a simple syrup from 1,5 litres of water and 6 dl sugar, let the sweet cherries simmer in the syrup for a few minutes, before picking out the cherries and adding them to hot, sterile jars.
Then the syrup was brought to a boil, poured over the berries, and the lids closed tightly.

Tre glass a 7,5 dl og to a 5 dl.

Three jars of 7,5 dl and two of 5 dl.
These will be desserts later in autumn. Hopefully they will be good served with ice cream or whipped cream.
I have neither made nor tasted canned sweet cherries before, so I am curious about the result.

The rest of the cherries were put in the freezer, and I hope we'll get around to pick and freeze down a few more litres before the cherries finishes.

Wow...lot's of cherries!! Hilde, it is true that I have not eaten such many cherries at a time. Cherry is grown in northern part of Japan and sold across Japan...expensive!
Have a good weekend
